Pi at the Bar

‘”‘How I want a drink, alcoholic of course, after the heavy chapters involving quantum mechanics!’ This is a sentence devised by Sir James Hopwood Jeans, a big-shot British mathematician, in order to help students remember Pi to the 14th decimal (3.14159265358979).  The numbers  correspond with the number of letters in each word of the sentence.  Sir James was born in Lancashire, England.  A very fine place to be born.

Thanks to Paul MacFedries of Word Spy for bringing this to my attention.  It’s just about the geeky-est drink-related quotation I’ve ever seen.
